Why Viagra Works For Less Than 50% Of The Men Who Use It!

It is a known fact that many men who suffer erectile dysfunctions have sought solace in the use of aphrodisiacs. Many men have found the introduction of Viagra into the drug market exciting but sometime ago, Doctors in the United Kingdom warned that the drug does not work for more than half of the men who take it. In the Doctors’ opinion, millions of pounds are lost annually to the purchase of drugs that fail to treat the cause of the problem.
Most men that are given prescriptions by their general practitioners are actually suffering from low testosterone levels, which cannot be treated by Viagra alone. This according to medical experts is because the impotence pill depends on those using it having sufficient levels of sex hormone for it to work.
Doctors have recommended that men should have a blood test to determine whether their testosterone levels. Where it is found to be low, it can be treated with testosterone pills, patches and gels, all of which are relatively inexpensive.
Low testosterone affects about 40% of one in five men who suffer forms of impotence. Although researches have shown that levels of the hormone start to decline with age, some are affected much earlier than others. It can also be a symptom of an underlying health condition such as diabetes and heart disease. Experts have therefore advised that it should be properly diagnosed.
Typical symptoms include mood swings, tiredness, insomnia as well as low sex drive, the last being the reason many men visit their doctor. Sexual health experts have warned that many general practitioners now prescribe Viagra by default rather than diagnosing the root cause of the problem.
Dr. Geoffrey Hackett, a consultant urologist at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham, and former Chairman of the British Society for Sexual Medicine, said more than half of men taking Viagra found it did not solve their problems adequately. “Viagra will only work if there are sufficient levels of testosterone” he said. Dr. Hackett concluded that “everyone thinks that Viagra is the panacea for all sexual problems, it’s not.”
