“South West Leaders Collected $ 200m From The Government After Abiola Died”-Al Mustapha

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha alleged in court on Monday that leaders in the south west geo-political zone of Nigeria benefitted from the death of the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential elections.
Al-Mustapha who is currently standing trial over the murder of the late Kudirat Abiola was led in evidence by his counsel when he made the revelation in a Lagos High Court on Monday. Al-Mustapha told the court that Bashorun Abiola and General Sani Abacha were both murdered because of the schemes and machinations that went on after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. Al-Mustapha claimed to have video and audio evidence of his claim that both men were assassinated.
Mustapha told the court that when Chief MKO Abiola was killed, the then Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar ordered the central bank to release the sum of $ 200 million, £ 75 million and N 500 million to pacify leaders in the south west and also to ease the tension generated by Abiola’s death.
The embattled former CSO also blamed the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar for his present predicament. According to Al-Mustapha, Abubakar ensured that he was kept away so that he would not divulge any information on how Abacha and Abiola died.
Al Mustapha who described himself as an officer who is being persecuted said “after the death of Abacha, so much happened within three days and the country was without a President or Vice President. The then Vice President, Lieutenant General Diya was imprisoned for staging a coup. Many senior officers wanted to become Head of State but God gave me the wisdom with which I assisted General Abdulsalami Abubakar to become the President. This is the price I am paying for my loyalty and for assisting him.”
Al-Mustapha also told the court that “Abiola would have been killed the very day Abacha died, but I relocated him within the barracks and used the Strike Force to protect him from those who wanted to balance the equation.”
The next hearing has been fixed for August 3, 2011.
