Four students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta who were members of The Apostolic Church Students Fellowship in the institution drowned on Thursday. The students lost their lives in a river around the Aro area of the Ogun State capital where they had gone to observe a 7-day prayer and fasting retreat.
Street Journal gathered that the students had gone to the river to take their bath in turns. After the female members had finished bathing, the males, apparently unaware of the depth of the river decided to have a swim
Those who lost their lives included one Ebenezer, a student in the Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department, Nifemi, a Mass Communications student, Olamide from the Department of Architecture while the fourth was said to be an ND II student of Business Administration. Street Journal gathered that he was new convert having just joined the fellowship after his conversion from Islam.
As of the time of filing this report, three had been recovered and taken to the mortuary while the fellowship’s prayer coordinator has been picked up by the police.
When Street Journal called the PRO of the Ogun State Police Command, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, he confirmed the incident and stated that the case has been transferred to the State CID from Lafenwa Division. He also said the disclosed that investigation is still ongoing.
