Popular actor, Babatunde Omidina, aka Baba Suwe was today produced in court as ordered by Justice Yewande Idowu of an Ikeja High Court last week. The comedian was also granted bail in the sum of N 500,000 and a surety. The bail however came with a clause; it will not take effect until Friday, 4th November, 2011 after the order to remand him in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) must have elapsed.
Omidina was taken into custody on October 12 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport while he was on his way to France where he was to be the MC at a child dedication event. NDLEA officials had stopped him from travelling based on the result shown by the scanners at the airport which revealed that the actor had ingested some items suspected to be narcotic drugs. He has been kept under observation since then.
The NDLEA went to court to obtain an injunction to keep the comedian for 15 more days after a scan at a hospital in Lagos revealed results similar to the one at the airport. Omidina’s lawyer however challenged the 15 day-order after which the judge ruled that the NDLEA should produce him physically in court on Tuesday.
