Ghadaffi’s Son, Saif al Islam Captured In Libya

Saif al Islam, son of the former Libyan strongman, Muammar Ghadaffi was on Saturday arrested in Zintan, Libya as he tried to leave the country. Reports say he is being detained in Zintan, in a part of Libya that shares borders with Niger, Algeria and Mali. He is expected to be moved to Tripoli soon.

Saif had gone underground after the fall of Tripoli and he escaped from Bani Walid where he put up just before it fell to the revolutionary forces.

While confirming the arrest, Libya’s Information Minister Mahmoud Shammam said the National Transitional Council has not taken any official decision on the issue yet, he however disclosed that the former Libyan leader’s heir apparent “is an outlaw and should be tried in front of the Libyan Court, by Libyan people and by Libyan justice.”

Saif al-Islam is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes including the murder of protesters during his father’s reign.

There has been celebrations in Tripoli over the arrest of Saif who became Libya’s most wanted man after the death of his father on October 20.
