In a warning issued on Sunday, the United States Embassy in Nigeria disclosed that there is a likelihood that Nigeria might witness more attacks from the Islamist Boko Haram sect in the coming days. The warning specified that the attacks which could come anytime from now has Nigeria’s federal capital, Abuja as its target. The Americans also named three luxury hotels frequented by foreigners in Abuja as the likely targets; they are the Hilton, Nicon Luxury and Sheraton hotels. It is an open secret that these hotels are frequented by the elite class in Nigeria.
The American embassy also stated that the attack may come as Nigeria celebrates Eid al-Adha, its diplomats and staffs have therefore been instructed to avoid those hotels.
The sect had struck in Maiduguri, Borno State and Damaturu, the Yobe State capital on Friday. Hundreds of people were killed in those coordinated bomb and gun attacks. Incidentally, a week before the attack in Damaturu, the Yobe State commissioner of police, Sulaiman Lawal had said there was no Boko Haram presence in the state.
