Chief Justice of Nigeria Goes On Terminal Leave

. Paves Way For First Female Chief Justice of The Federation

The Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Dahiru Musdapher has submitted his resignation letter. Street Journal gathered that the CJN who is due to retire in July tendered the letter in order to observe his terminal leave which should commence three months before his retirement.

Justice Musdapher has also nominated Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, also of the Supreme Court as his successor. Justice Aloma might likely become the first female Chief Justice of Nigeria. Justice Aloma Mukhtar was born in 1944 and was called to the English Bar in 1966 and the Nigerian Bar in 1967. She was the Presiding Judge of the Court of Appeal between 1993 and 2005.

Justice Musdapher who will be 70 on July 15 was called to the Nigerian Bar in June 1968 and he became the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria in August, 2011.
