The Old Campus of the Bayero University Kano was on Sunday morning rocked by a bomb explosion which was followed by sporadic gunshots. The institution’s theatre was affected by the blast.
Three loud explosions were heard around the theaters 2 and 3 where Christian students normally pray and hold services. About 25 people are believed to have died as a result of the Sunday morning attack. The victims include two Professors who were in a Catholic Church within the theater during the attack, they are Professors Andrew Leo of the Library Science and J.T Ayodele of the Chemistry Department.
The attack started around 8.30 am and the institution’s security men were no match for the attackers as they had to run for cover. After the explosions, there was sporadic shooting that lasted for more than half an hour. Gunshots were also heard around the Kabuga Junction where the attackers reportedly clashed with policemen.
This is the second university that has come under attack within a spate of three days. The administrative block of the Gombe State University was on Friday night bombed by yet to be identified persons.
