Wanted Senator Bukola Saraki has turned himself in to the Nigeria Police Force. The former Kwara State Governor, who was declared wanted by the police sequel to his refusal to appear for questioning at the Special Fraud Unit surfaced at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday afternoon. He was sighted in company of about seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria and a number of other lawyers.
In a statement signed by one of his aides, he had promised to make himself available to the police in Lagos. As early as 10 am on Monday, vehicles with Kwara State Government registration plates were sighted around the Anti-Fraud Police office in Lagos. A number of buses also conveyed women from Ilorin who were singing and dancing close. The Kwara State PDP Chairman was also seen there. He said he led his people to come and show their solidarity for Dr. Saraki. His supporters had gone to wait for him in Lagos, thinking he would make good his promise to appear in Lagos.
Saraki is being investigated for his alleged involvement in a loan scam and a waiver he got from the now defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc. Before he appeared, many people had “occupied” his phone lines and social network pages by sending different messages calling on him to appear and defend himself if he knows he is clean.
Meanwhile, investigators who spoke on the condition of anonymity opined that Saraki must have been pressing buttons from hiding in order to ensure that he is let off the hook.
