Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former President has resigned his appointment as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). The former President tendered his resignation letter on Tuesday.
Chief Obasanjo disclosed that his resignation would allow him “devote a bit more time to the international demand” on him. He also stated that his resignation would give him more time to develop his Presidential library and also help in mobilising investment in Nigeria and Africa. .
For years now, Obasanjo has been one of the most powerful members of the party and within the party; it is believed that he is one of the few who dictates who gets what.
He single-handedly chose the Late Umar Yar\ Adua as successor out of the many aspirants jostling to become President in 2007 and he ensured that his candidate got maximum support from all members. .
