ACN Members Rally Round As Ajimobi Buries Mother

By NewsAdmin on July 19, 2012

The remains of Alhaja Sikirat Abeje Ajimobi, the mother Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Governor of Oyo State was interred in Ibadan on Thursday. Though according to a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, the programme was scheduled to commence by 2pm.
It could however not start until around 2.50 pm when the Governor arrived at the Johnson Awe Street venue of the burial.
Governors Ibikunle Amosun and Babatunde Fashola of Ogun and Lagos States respectively. Everywhere Fashola turned to, there were people waiting to hail him. He obViously felt at home as shouts of “Eko o ni baje” greeted him everywhere around the venue. The Government of the State of Osun too was powerfully represented. The state’s SSG and the Governor’s Chief of Staff were among the early callers. Mr Muyiwa Ige, Osun State’s Commissioner for Lands too was there.
A number of incidents kept people talking about the event. For instance many wondered why the ACN candidate for the coming governorship election in Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu came to the burial woth four mobile policemen while Governor Raji Fashola came with only one.
Aare Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao came dressed for the occasion, those who had thought they would see him in his characteristic agbada and “abeti aja” styled cap were proved wrong as the Aare Musulumi came in a turban and Arabian robe. He was accompanied by Azeem Gbolarumi, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu too showed some simplicity, he rode in a car which many believed was a disguise. The “area boys” were however not deceived. They followed him until their representative got “something”. Alhaji Lai Mohammed too was spotted, though he left soon after the Jagaban of Borgu.
Alhaji Lateef Akinsola Tokyo of the NURTW fame too was there. It was of course obvious that he still enjoys followership.
The burial was follwed by a prayer session held at the St Michael Comprehensive Nursery and Primary School field. There, the Governor was flanked by the Aare Musulumi and former Governor Lam Adesina. Alhaja Aminat Abiodun, the Iyalode of Ibadan too sat close by while Alhaji Lamidi Ajadi and Chief Ismaila Fijabi were on the same line with Chief Eddy Oywole Foko who represented the Olubadan.
Surprise of the evening was the appearance of Senator Teslim Folarin, the former Senate Leader who came with Diran Odeyemi, a known PDP element and aide to former Governor Akala.
Most of the guests who know of Governor Ajimobi’s deputy’s prudence could not hold their laughter when after renaming the Deputy Governor, Moses Alake Adeyemo as “Musa”, the Imam who coordinated the prayers summoned him and told him point blank that the “owo adua” (money for prayers) he dropped was too small. He was told to add more.
