Incumbent Edo State Governor, Adams Aliu Oshiomole floored his opponents in the governorship election that held in his state on Saturday. The Governor who flew the flag of the Action Congress of Nigeria had a total of 477,478 votes. His closest rival, Charles Airhavbere of the PDP came a distant second with 144,235 votes. The flagbearer of the All Nigeria Peoples’ Party had 3,642, that of the CPC had 2,793, the Labour Party had 604 while the NCP had 440 and the SMDP had 807.
Meanwhile, three policemen and an electoral officer lost their lives in the course of the elections as the boat that was conveying them and some of the electoral materials to be used capsized at Ologbo.
Governor Oshiomole had earlier expressed his dismay at the way the Independent National Electoral Commission went about the conduct of the election as he cast his vote in Etsako West Local Government on Saturday. There were also protests from people who could not find their names and pictures on the register at Garricks Primary School where the PDP candidate registered.
