Senator Killed In Plateau Terrorist Attack!

There is renewed tension in the already heated Plateau State as the crisis rocking the state took a new turn. Senator Gyang Dalyop Datong, the Senator of Plateau North District was on Sunday killed by gunmen while he was attending a burial.

The Senator was attending the mass burial of scores of people who were killed by Fulani herdsmen while taking refuge in the house of a Pastor in Matse area of Riyom in Plateau State. He was attending the burial with other lawmakers in the state when gunmen suspected to be Fulanis suddenly swooped on the sober gathering and opened fire.

The Senator was one of those who lost their lives in the gun attack. Also hit was Hon Dan Fulani Gyang representing Barkin Ladi in the Plateau State House of Assembly. Some witnesses however said the Datong was not hit by the volley of bullets but he fainted just as the Fulanis started shooting and did not come round as efforts to revive him failed.

Datong, a Medical Doctor was born in 1959 and he studied in the University of Jos and University of Ghana, Legon. He has been a member of the National Assembly since 1997 when he defeated the former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu. He was until his death the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health.
