The Secretary General of Nigeria’s leading Islamic body, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Dr Lateef Adegbite is dead.
79-year-old Adegbite passed away in Lagos, on Friday evening and his demise was officially announced by the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. He was a founding member and the first National President of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria. He trained as a lawyer in England and lectured in the University of Lagos. Chief Lateef Adegbite was appointed as the Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters of the Western Region of Nigeria in 1971, two years after, he was appointed as the region’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. He was until his death the Seriki Musulumi and Baba Adini of Egbaland. He would be buried in his house in Onikolobo, Abeoukuta on Saturday afternoon.
