These do not seem to be the best of times for Nigeria’s ruling class. Just days after the news of the admission of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan in a German hospital was broken, the Minister for Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison- Madueke is presently receiving treatment in a London hospital.
Street Journal gathered that the Minister was admitted late last week for a stress related ailment, that was after she had accompanied the President to Anambra State where new oil fields were commissioned. There have been calls for Mrs. Madueke’s removal after Nigeria’s petroleum industry was hit by big time frauds bordering on fuel subsidy.
The Minister however denied being hospitalized in London as she posted on her account on Twitter, a social network that “on the contrary to recently published articles concerning my health, I haven’t been hospitalized in London. Both my family and I are well”.
The denial has not done much to change the situation, especially as the First Lady’s media aides denied her hospitalization in Germany days ago. Nigerian’s continue to remind themselves that they were told that a former President was away to Saudi Arabia on holy pilgrimage while he was lying critically ill in a hospital in Riyadh.
