Boko Haram Kills Ibadan Businessmen!

By NewsAdmin on October 15, 2012

A former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Lukman Adigun narrowly escaped death on Friday as gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect opened fire on people who were coming out of a mosque in Maiduguri. While Adigun who was am member of the Oyo legislature between 1999 and 2003 escaped unhurt, two associates who went on the business trip to Maiduguri were not that lucky. Adigun’s friend, Lukman Akinyemi and one other person identified as Abdullahi were felled by the rain of bullets.

Hon Lukman Adigun is well known and respected by all the cattle dealers around the 30-30 axis and the New Goat Market in Bodija Ibadan. He is known to be one of the biggest businessmen around there and many love to accompany him on his trips up north.

Street Journal gathered that they had gone to a mosque to pray and were just outside the mosque when the attackers came.

The visibly devastated Adigun asked rhetorically “how does one explain that he took people out of Ibadan alive and came back with their corpses?”

The Bodija cattle market has been enveloped by sadness as many have continually extolled the virtues of the deceased businessmen. Akinyemi and Hon Adigun were said to be so close that they were always together. “They sat together, they ate together from the same plate, they were very close”, a mourner said. The other victim, Abdullahi was described as “ä fine, fair-skinned handsome gentleman.”

Street Journal’s findings revealed that Abdullahi’ went on the trip to boost his stock ahead of the approaching sallah as he was one of the most popular young men in the ram market.  Preparations were on for the burial of the two men as of the time of filing this report.
