By NewsAdmin on October 5, 2012

Five students of Ibadan’s first private university, Lead City were among 26 suspected criminals paraded on Thursday by the Oyo State Police Command. While speaking to newsmen, Mr. Joseph Mbu, the State’s Commissioner of Police disclosed that the suspects were arrested for crimes including armed robbery, internet fraud, stealing of jewellery valued at N 25 million as well as car snatching.

The students were arrested in a hotel in Ojoo, Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan with five laptop computers in their possession. The CP disclosed that upon interrogation, the police discovered that the laptops were the instruments they used in defrauding people.  The police chief also disclosed that the students have ripped their victims off of amounts running into millions of dollars. Part of the proceeds of their alleged crime were invested in exotic cars including a Range Rover valued at N 6.2 million.

Mr Mbu also disclosed that three suspects were apprehended with explosives in Ibadan. He said when they were caught, they offered a bribe of N 20,000 which was turned down by the policemen who arrested them. He said the matter is still being investigated.
