Saraki, Strongman Of Kwara Politics Is Dead!

Second Republic Senate Leader and Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki is dead. The old politician gave up early on Wednesday in Lagos.

Saraki who was fondly referred to as “Oloye” bestrode the political arena of Kwara State like a colossus for decades and until recently, he was the godfather who determined who got what as far as politics in Kwara was concerned. He was 79 years old.

His son and former Governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki could not be reached on phone, his media assistant, Akintoba Fatigun however confirmed Oloye’s demise.

His body was  flown to Ilorin for burial from his home at No 43, Cameroon Road, Ikoyi in Lagos State with Senator Bukola Saraki conspicuously leading the family members. Those who attended the burial included the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Waziri Tambuwal, Dr Wale Babalakin, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi Lamido.

The body of the late Senate Leader left the Ilorin airport around 4. 43 pm for the eid praying ground after which the late politician was laid to rest at the  burial site. The Chief Imam of Ilorin led the burial prayers and also led prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

His son, Laolu confirmed that he died of cancer which he had battled for about 5 years.

The Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed declared Wednesday a work free day to enable Kwarans attend the political giant’s funeral. 3 days of mourning have also been declared by the state Government.
