Wale Babalakin, the Chairman of the Bi-Courtney Group was again absent in court on Wednesday. For the second time since the High Court sitting in Ikeja began hearing charges of money laundering brought against him, he did not show up as the court was again made to understand that he was in hospital. Babalakin was accused of helping former Delta State Governor, James Ibori to launder N 4.7 billion.
Another twist has however emerged as Babalakin’s lawyer, Ebun Sofunde announced his withdrawal on Wednesday. Sofunde told the court that his withdrawal was a “personal thing”. Bolaji Ayorinde SAN has however announced that he will henceforth represent Babalakin who is said to be on admission at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile, a related matter at the Federal High Court has been adjourned till 13th December, 2012.
