The Senate has passed a supplementary budget of N 161. 6 billion for fuel subsidy days after President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed that the N 880 billion budgeted for fuel subsidy for the year 2012 would not be enough. The President went ahead to submit a proposal of N 161.6 billion to the Senate.
Incidentally, the President held a closed door meeting with a number of officials on Wednesday night. Those at the meeting included the Senate President, David Mark, Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal, Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as well as Dr. Bright Okogu, the Director-General of the Budget Office. The meeting dragged trill late into the night. The Senate President said the meeting would continue on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Senate President has assured that the Senate would pass the 2013 budget before the Senate goes on break on December 20.
