EFCC Finally Arraigns “Wanted” Babalakin!

. Court Grants Him Bail On Self-Recognition

The drama that started when Dr. Bola Olawale Babalakin suddenly took ill a few hours before he was to be arraigned before a High Court in Lagos last year has entered a fourth phase with his eventual arraignment before Justice Onigbanjo at a High Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday. The drama entered the second season when Babalakin was arrested after he left the hospital where he was admitted for weeks. The third season commenced when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission declared him wanted on Wednesday evening. Babalakin however replied the agency via a statement from his media aide that he would appear in court on Thursday.

He made good his word and came to the court, he entered at 10.06 am. He was arraigned along with Alex Okoh for laundering N 4.7 billion for former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori.

Babalakin’s lawyers argued that he should be released on bail and the request was granted as the judge  granted him bail on grounds of self recognition, agreeing that he was entitled to it as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri. The case was thereafter adjourned till February 25, 2013.
