. Qualify For Semi Finals
The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday qualified for the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations. The Eagles took on an experienced Ivorian national team in a quarter final match of the African Cup of Nations tournament and the Nigerians showed great signs of improvement from their last three games. Nigeria took the lead in the 43rd minute with a thunderous shot from Emmanuel Emenike and the scores stood at 1-0 in favour of Nigeria till the end of the first half.
The Ivorians equalized three minutes into the second half with a header off a free kick from Didier Drogba.
The game went on with both keepers making great saves. In the 66th minute, Toure rounded Nigeria’s Oboabona but the resultant shot was saved by Enyeama. Frustration could be seen all over the Ivorians as the game wound up, Gervinho who tried an acrobatic shot got a free kick against him.
In the 78th minute, Kenneth Omeruo intercepted a ball and made a pass to Sunday Mba who went through four defenders and scored a breath-taking goal. Coach Stephen Keshi surprised football analysts as he played eleven players for 89 minutes and only substituted Victor Moses for Joseph Yobo in the last minutes of the game to boost the defence.
