7 French nationals, three adults and four children, all members of the same family were kidnapped close to the Cameroonian border with Nigeria. Hollande who spoke to reporters in Greece where he is currently on an official visit said “they have been taken by a terrorist group that we know and that is in Nigeria.”
Speaking further, the French President said “I see the hands of Boko Haram in that part of Cameroon. France is in Mali and it will continue until its mission is completed”.
The tourists were kidnapped about 10 kilometres from the border with Nigeria, near the Waza National Park and the Lake Chad in the far north of Cameroon. The resort is a choice location for Europeans on holidays. Reports said the French tourists were abducted by armed men who came on motorbikes. They reportedly rode towards Nigeria after the raid.
Two days ago, seven foreign members of staff of Setraco, a Lebanese company were abducted in Bauchi, with the group Al Ansaru claiming responsibility.
Bpoko Haram is affiliated to Al Quaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and has criticized the military operation of France and other countries in Mali.
