At least thirteen people were on Friday shot dead in two separate incidents by yet to be identified gunmen in Kano while many others were injured. The victims of the first of the two shooting incidents were health officials who were administering polio vaccines on children at a health centre at Filin Kashew in Unguw Uku.
The perpetrators came in a tricycle and opened fire. The second attack took place in Hotoro where the gunmen started shooting just as the officials in the Health Centre were about to start work.
Street Journal gathered that the two incidents took place within 30 minutes of each other.
Kano State Police PRO, ASP Magaji Musa Majia confirmed the incidents, though he said details were still sketchy when he was called.
Over the years, there have been oppositions against polio vaccines in Kano State. A former Governor reportedly prevented officials from administering the vaccines on children while he was in office.
