President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday signed Nigeria’s 2013 budget into law. The President had earlier refused to sign the budget because of some reservations by the Presidency, leading to a cold war between the Presidency and the National Assembly as the House of Representatives had already started looking at possible actions to be taken in the light of the President’s refusal to sign the budget which had been presented to him earlier than usually done in the country.
Last year, the President presented a budget of N 4.82 trillion to the National Assembly. The legislators however increased the figure to N 4.98 trillion.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati disclosed that further legislative action would be taken by the National Assembly on the observations made by the Presidency in the budget document.
Those present at the signing ceremony included the Senate President, David Mark, Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Special Aviser to the President on National Assembly, Senator Joy Emordi as well as Dr Reuben Abati.
