Not less than 18 people lost their lives between Wednesday and Thursday as helicopter gunships belonging to the Nigerian Navy bombed Boko Haram training camps in Sambosa Game Reserve In Bama Local Government Area of Borno State as well as the Farin Ruwa Forest. The feat was made known via a statement signed by Colonel Sagir Musa, the JTF “Operation Restore Order” Spokesman on Friday. Musa disclosed that the onslaught against the terrorists was undertaken on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31st January.
In the exchange of fire that took place before the camp was destroyed, 17 Boko Haram members lost their lives while on JTF officer was killed. Accoding to Col Sagir Musa, the camp was well sited, well fortified and it had training facilities as well as accommodation, a drug store, vehicle holding area, a kitchen, latrine, and water supply. He stated that those who carried out recent attacks in Biu, Maiduguri and Konduga were trained in the camp. Items recovered from the camp included AK-47 rifles, double barreled guns, rocket propelled grenade launchers as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition.
