Akure, the capital of Ondo State was in a celebratory mood on Sunday as Dr Olusegun Mimiko was sworn-in for a second term as the Governor of Ondo State.
Guests came in from all the geo-political zones to grace the occasion. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar, Governors Theophilus Orji, Peter Obi as well as Tanko Almakura and Kayode Fayemi of Abia, Anambra, Nassarawa and Ekiti States were in attendance.
Former Governors Ayo Fayose and Alao Akala were there too.
Dr Mimiko was first sworn in on February 24, 2009 after the Appeal Court confirmed him as the winner of the 2007 election in Ondo State. He won again on October 20, 2012 by a wide margin.
After taking the oath of office, administered on him by the Ondo State Chief Justice, Justice Olaseinde Kumuyi, Dr Mimiko in his speech looked back at the last four years of his administration and said ” we have sought to re-engineer the education sector to be able to produce truly competitive and socio-economically relevant products who will be equipped to climb the social ladder; to continually create a vibrant middle class that will continue to innovate and drive our development.
“Education must serve the present generation, like those before it, as a tool of social mobility; to do otherwise is to wittingly or unwittingly recycle generational poverty and close the hope of generations for better lives”. He also assured the people of Ondo State of better living conditions.
