Nollywood and by extension the Nigerian entertainment industry has been hit by yet another sad development with the death of veteran actor, Justus Esiri. He died late on Tuesday. less than a week after the sudden death of Gofdie Harvey, a famous singer. The film industry also witnessed series of deaths last year including that of Enebeli Elebuwa who was one of those who acted in “The Village Headmaster”, a popular TV series that ran in the 1980s. He played the role of the Headmaster back then.
Esiri attended Urhobo College after which he moved to Germany to study Engineering. He however took interest in acting started it off in Germany. In 1968 through 69, he was the only Nigerian male acting on stage in Germany. He spoke fluent German which enabled him to work with the Voice of Nigeria, German Service as a translator. He was believed to have died as a result of a diabetes related ailment.
His son Sidney Onoriode Esiri is a popular musician known as “Dr Sid”.
