Silvio Berlusconi, Italy’s former Prime Minister was on Thursday sentenced to a 0ne-year jail term by an Italian court for making the taped details of a confidential phone call public during a case related to a 2005 banking scandal. The judge granted the request of prosecutors who asked for a jail term of one year for the former Prime Minister.
Incidentally, Berlusconi is facing two other trials; one for allegedly paying for sex with an under-aged prostitute and the other for an alleged tax fraud. He is expected to file an appeal as he has denied any wrongdoing. And according to Italian law, he will not be serving any jail term until all possible appeal trials have been carried out.
