Indications have emerged that the embattled Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has been sacked. The National Assembly had mounted pressure on the Presidency to take a decisive action on Maina’s issue after his failure to appear and defend himself of allegations of fraud leveled against him.
The Head of Service, Bello Sali first announced the dissolution of the Pension Reform Task Team and the subsequent transfer of pension funds management to his office. A new Director has however been appointed to take over the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Office (CIPPO) from Maina. She is Olabisi Jaji, a Level 17 officer in the Ministry of Environment. Elizabeth Zenetini who is to serve as Deputy Director was drafted from the Ministry of Agriculture. Both officers have been directed to resume at their new offices on or before March 6, 2013.
Maina has neither been seen or heard after a warrant was issued for his arrest. During the period that Maina served in the Pension Reform Team, about N 290 billion was allegedly misappropriated.
