Mamman Kotangora, SURE-P Deputy Chairman Dies

Major General Mamman Tsoho Kotangora (rtd), Vice Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme is dead. He passed on at the National Hospital on Wednesday. Kotangora, who was one of the first students of the Nigerian Defence Academy was until his death the Deputy Chairman of SURE-P in charge of Project Delivery.

He became a regular face in administration right from the days of General Ibrahim Babangida as Nigeria’s President. He was appointed as the Minister for Works in 1991. General Sani Abacha appointed Kotangora as the Sole Administrator of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1985 after the institution was rocked by a major crisis. And after Abacha’s death in 1998, he was appointed as the Minister of the  Federal Capital Territory by the General Abdulsalami Abubakar administration.

General Kotangora tried his hands on the political game too, as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, he contested for the senatorial position of the FCT in 2003 and the Presidency in 2007. He however lost at the shadow elections. He was 69 years old.
