The Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has called for a meeting of the Forum. The meeting, the first to be convened by him since the controversial May 24 election is scheduled to hold at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja by 8 pm on Wednesday. The invitation to the meeting was signed by Chidinma Onyenalim, an aide to the Chairman.
The May 24 election results had been rejected by some of the Governors who claimed to have appointed Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang as Chairman via a consensus before the election. A similar meeting was called by Governor Jang last week and it had 16 Governors in attendance.
Amaechi who is still on suspension from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party is believed the be the more popular of the two Chairmen, hence the belief in some quarters that the meeting will be a test of popularity. The Jonah Jang led faction had its office commissioned by the Vice President some days after the election.
