. Lectures Obas on Effective Policing
The long arm of the law caught up with a fake policeman in Ogun State recently as he was arrested by the PPRO of the state command, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. Adejobi disclosed to Street Journal that the fake law enforcer was nabbed during a routine surveillance patrol on Sunday 23rd June at about 11. 30 am at Itori Ewekoro area of the state. Adejobi stated that “the fake police corporal was driving a blue Volkswagen Golf car wit registration number BE 77 LSD when he was intercepted”.
The reckless driving of the man attracted the PPRO who forced him to stop. Upon interrogation, the father of three, Mr Sule Samuel, claimed to be a police corporal, he gave his force number as 241576, attached to PMF 22 Lagos.
After a thorough interview by the PPRO however, he confessed that he had been dismissed from the police since 2006 for using fake credentials. The PPRO disclosed that a pair of police boots, a green beret, police belt, Nigeria Police Force ID card, tear gas and jack knife were recovered from him. He was subsequently taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran for further investigation.
In another development, the PPRO on Tuesday delivered a lecture exclusively for the Ogun State Council of Obas on effective policing. The lecture was delivered during the monthly statutory meeting of the traditional rulers at Obas Complex Okemosan Abeokuta..
In the course of the lecture, Adejobi highlighted the relevance of the traditional institution in achieving effective policing in the society. The PPRO who focused on the concept of community policing encouraged the monarchs to be close to the police in their locality and relate with the commissioner of police in order to ensure perfect security of the state.
At the end of the lecture, the names and phone numbers of the police command’s management team, area commanders, DPOs and Heads of Departments were rolled out to the Obas for easy communication. In His reaction, the chairman of the council and paramount ruler of Ijebuland Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland appreciated the Police Command for the lecture.
