The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Olisa Metuh resigned his position on Wednesday. The spokesman seems to be the first major casualty in ongoing efforts to manage the crisis rocking the party. Incidentally, just days ago, he had told media men that there was no crisis within the party.
Governors elected on the platform of the party had called for the resignation of the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamaga Tukur as one of the conditions for a peaceful resolution of the crisis. Street Journal gathered that the Governors had planned to pass a vote of no confidence on the Chairman during the National Executive Council meeting of the party.
The National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Matuh whose resignation takes effect from June 20 had however given indications that he might resign as far back as April, Apart from the internal crisis, Metuh seemed to have been overwhelmed by the office as he found himself pitched against many people, including media men in the discharge of his duties. He disclosed back then that he might go back to Law or Estate Management.
He assumed office as the Publicity Secretary in March 2012. Meanwhile, the process that produced Metuh and 11 others as officials of the party was faulted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Others include the Deputy National Chairman, the National Auditor, Deputy National Auditor, Women Leader and National Youth Leader among others.
