47 years after her husband was gunned down in a counter coup, Mrs Eunice Fajuyi, wife of the late Governor of the Western State, Colonel Francis Adekunle Fajuyi has died. Mrs Fajuyi died in the early hours of Friday, seven days to her 85th birthday.
Having lost her husband at the age of 38, she vowed never to remarry as a mark of honour for her late husband who was killed while hosting the Head of State, General Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi in Ibadan in July 1966.
She lost one of her sons, Dayo who once served as the Chairman of Ado Ekiti Local Government in 2011.
In the words of the Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Senator Babafemi Ojudu who eulogized the deceased, “mama was like her husband in all ramifications, strong, disciplined, brave, loyal and people-loving”. The Senator also disclosed that arrangements had already been put in place to give “Mama a befitting 85th birthday celebration” before the news of her death broke.
