The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Tuesday announced the indefinite suspension of former Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose and some of the members of the party’s executive committee in the state including Dr. TKO Aluko, the State Secretary, Pator Oluwawole, the PRO and Mrs Busola Oyebode, the Women Leader.
The suspension was announced during a press conference addressed by the state Chairman of the party, Makanjuola Ogundipe in Ado Ekiti.
Meanwhile, the Working Committee of the party in Ekiti State had earlier announced the suspension of the party Chairman, Makanjuola Ogundipe last week over allegations of bribery. The Vice Chairman, Hon Femi Bamishile was mandated to take over pending the outcome of investigations into the allegation. A few days before then, there had been a bloody battle at the PDP Secretariat on Ado Road as guns boomed and members were attacked by hoodlums suspected to be loyal to some governorship aspirants. Honpourable Kola Adefemi, a former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and a number of others were wounded in the melee.
Street Journal’s findings showed that the crisis has divided the party into two camps; while one favours the emergence of a consensus candidate, the other believes shadow elections should be held to determine who flies the party’s flag at the next governorship election. Memebers staged protest marches to the secretariat of the party on Monday to demand that a primary election should be the sole criterion for the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate.
