The British High Commission in Nigeria has disclosed that a British citizen was kidnapped in Lagos on Tuesday. The Briton was abducted by gunmen shortly after arriving the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos. Street Journal gathered that the abduction took place just as the vehicle in which the victim was being conveyed linked the expressway.
Wale Adebayo, the Deputy High Commission’s spokesman stated in Lagos that “there was a kidnapping of a Briton and we are working with the Nigerian authorities.”
The High Commission also stated that it is “working closely with others to secure the release of the hostage. Because of the nature of this incident, the British High Commission is not going into further detail about it”
Findings have however revealed that the vehicle that conveyed the Briton was attacked around 8.30 pm. The driver of the vehicle was shot during the attack.
Kidnappings have been on the increase in Nigeria with expatriates, politicians and their families being the prime targets. Ordinary citizens are however not spared too as kidnapping seems to have become one of the fastest money making ventures among the country’s teeming unemployed population.
