The Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed has ordered the immediate reinstatement of the suspended Chairman of Oyun Local Government Area following the return of peace to the area. The reinstatement was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold.
The Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Omoniyi was suspended along with the Chairman of Offa Local Government in February after violent clashes erupted between indigenes of the two towns. Not less than four lives were lost while properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the violence that had its root in a car accident on January 28. The SSG however pointed out that the Offa council remains suspended since the election that brought the Chairman, Hon Saheed Popoola to office has been nullified by a court of law.
The suspension affected the vice-chairmen, Councillors and supervisory councillors in the local councils.
Political undertones were read to the suspension of the Oyun Local Government chairman in many parts of the state especially concerning his status as a member of an opposition party.
