Ogun CP Reads Riot Act To Illegal Vigilante Groups!

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, on Wednesday summoned and addressed the leaders of the vigilante groups in Ogun State. Spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi told Street Journal that the move was part of the police command’s efforts at harmonising the various factions of the vigilante men and monitoring their activities henceforth.

CP Okoye made it known while addressing the men in his office at Eleweran, Abeokuta that the only vigilante group recognised by the state government and the police is the Vigilante Service of Ogun State which was launched by the state government on October 13, 2011 in Okemosan, Abeokuta to complement the efforts of the police and other security agencies in the state.

Among those in attendance at the meeting were the management team of the police command, including the Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners and heads of departments. Also present were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, ACP P. Akinduro (rdt.), the PRO of the Vigilante Service of Ogun State, Mr Soji Ganzalo and the Commander of the proscribed Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Mr Festus Agoro and his members.

The CP warned all the groups to work with Akinduro to harmonise themselves and feed the command back within two weeks. The CP also warned the groups about their activities, stating that they must adhere to the rules and guidelines of their operations henceforth. He also warned that there must not be any clash between any aggrieved groups or individuals as the command will not spare any group or individuals causing any crisis in the state.
