South African authorities on Tuesday ordered a recall of Dettol brand disinfectant liquid made by Reckitt Benkiser, a British company.
South Africa announced on Tuesday that the product which is imported from the UK, and is used in the fight against household germs was not safe for use by consumers.
According to the National Regulation for Compulsory Specifications said Dettol Disinfectant Liquid failed a “bacterial efficacy test” and it may constitute a health risk for users. “It fails to meet our requirements as such we urge the public not to use the product”, Thomas Madzhive, the General Manager of the NRCS said on Tuesday. The regulating body however disclosed that other products in the Dettol range are not affected by the recall.
Dettol is one of the most popular disinfectants on the African continent.
