Africa’s oldest President, Robert Mugabe was on Thursday sworn-in for another 5 year-term as president. Thursday’s swearing-in marks the beginning of 89-year-old Mugabe’s 7th term as his country’s president. While taking the oath of office, Mugabe promised to continue to “observe, uphold and defend the constitution of Zimbabwe”.
The stadium was filled with the president’s supporters who wore clothes that bore Mugabe’s picture. They all came to celebrate with the man who has ruled the country since independence in 1980.
Opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai was conspicuously absent at the inauguration as he had alleged that the election held on July 31 was rigged in Mugabe’s favour.
