Suntai Writes Taraba Assembly, Stating Readiness To Resume Duties!

The stage in Taraba State seems set for a political drama as the Governor, Danbaba Suntai wrote to the state’s House of Assembly less than 24 hours after his return to Nigeria from the United States where he had been receiving treatment.

In the letter delivered to the House of Assembly on Monday, which was purportedly signed by him, the Governor stated that he is ready to resume duties as the chief executive of the state.

Different views have been held on the Governor’s stat of health since he survived a plane crash last October. While the Governor’s supporters have continually insisted that he is fit and capable of running the state, some people in and outside Traba State would have none of that. John Dara, one of the Governor’s friends stated that Governor Suntai recognised aides who came to receive him and called them by their names, thus pointing to the fact that he is mentally sound.

Some have however questioned insinuations that the Governor is fit enough to resume and run the state.  Governor Suntai’s arrival has also generated more questions than answers. Many wonder how a man who was assisted off an aircraft by three people be able to stand the rigours of governing a state.

More than before, his mental state has become a major topic of discussion especially because the governor has not spoken publicly since he returned on Sunday. Not even the supporters who trooped to the Jalingo Airport to welcome him heard a word from him.  He has not also addressed the media thereby leading to speculations that his return might have been facilitated to prevent the House of Assembly from impeaching him.

Street Journal has also gathered that the legislative arm of the Taraba State Government have concluded plans to invite Governor Suntai to address members of the House before he resumes.
