Nigerian international, John Mikel Obi scored his first ever Barclays Premier League goal for Chelsea after 258 appearances in almost seven years at the London club. The goal came in the 83rd minute of the home game against Fulham. Oscar had scored earlier in the second half while Mikel’s goal simply put the game beyond the reach of the visitors. A cross from Frank Lampard was headed down for Mikel by John Terry and the Nigerian made no mistake as he slotted the ball in with a wonderful scissors kick. Before now, Mikel was known to shield Chelsea’s back four as a blocker.
The 2-0 win over West London rivals Fulham ended a 4-match winless streak for Chelsea while it also took Manager, Jose Mourinho’s Premier League unbeaten home record up to 63 matches.
For Fulham, the waiting continues as the club has not recorded a victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the last 34 years.
Chelsea lost a number of chances and the Blues’attack appeared blunt most of the time with Samuel Etoo Fils struggling to re-enact his scoring form in Chelsea.
