Afolabi Olawole, a councillorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Shawo South West ward of Offa Local Government has rejected the result of the rerun election held on Saturday which gave him victory. Olawole who was declared winner by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) stated that he did not win the election. Olawole went further to state that Adefioye Kayode, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress won the election into the Shawo ward.
The PDP candidate who spoke during a media briefing of the APC in Offa on Wednesday stated that the decision to reject the result was based on his religious belief which forbids him from cheating. He also pointed out that he came out to reject the victory in order to prevent violence and retrogression in his community. He stressed that he was neither influenced nor coerced into rejecting the result.
The announcement from KWASIEC that PDP won the election was trailed by protests across Offa, a town that witnessed an orgy of violence back in February when some of its indigenes clashed with people from Erinle, a neighbouring town.
