At least 12 suspected cultists have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command. The spokesman of the command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi told Street Journal that ther police team moved against the cultists following numerous complaints from the members of the public and intelligence report from the State Intelligence Bureau(SIB) of the command.
He stated that the cultists made life miserable for the people of Ogijo Community in Sagamu Local Government Area which shares a boundary with Ikorodu in Lagos State.
“The proximity of Ogijo to Ikorodu has made it a commercial nerve in Ogun State with numerous activities both legal and illegal which have been of great concern to the police command,” Adejobi stated.
He also disclosed that “on Saturday, some teams of police detectives led by the DPO Ogijo Division SP Toyin Afolaogun pounced on the cultists in the area between the hours of 12.15am and 4.30am and arrested 12 cultists belonging to various cult groups.
Items recovered from them include some guns, including a locally made pistol, live cartridges, Indian hemp, assorted charms and some other dangerous weapons”.
The police spokesman said the arrested cultists were noted for terrorising and robbing people of the area particularly on their land when they are constructing structures on their legally acquired land.
He said the command has put measures in place to sanitise the area rid the place of miscreants and cultists so that innocent Nigerians, residents or people on transit in the area will be adequately protected.
on the fate of the suspects, Adejobi said “they will soon appear in court after we must have concluded our thorough investigation”.
