A police officer who happened to be one a friend to Elegbede disclosed to Street Journal that “it was not as if the ASP took the Corporal’s girlfriend. What happened was that he was trying to stop the Corporal from killing the woman for taking money from him over the years and planning to dump him.” Speaking further on the issue, the officer who pleaded anonymity stated that “the lady is from the East and is over 60 years old with grandchildren in the same Gashuá town. Its so sad we lost him, he died telling his wife he would be okay”, the officer added.
The CP also confirmed that both the Corporal and the girlfriend are in police custody and would be charged to court soon.
