While answering questions during a media chat on Sunday, President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed that Nigeria’s security architecture has reduced the Boko Haram terrorist organization such that the group can no longer bomb Abuja. “Look at Boko Haram, you will agree that our security architecture is now able to reduce them. Now they can’t bomb Abuja,” the President said.
Also speaking about other regions, the President said “even in Maiduguri and Damaturu, the security is tight but the forest areas are huge challenges.” Speaking further, he said “I said Boko Haram are in government, even in the North, some soldiers betrayed the government, a senator is being prosecuted.”
When he was however asked whether the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau was indeed dead, the President simply said “as President, I don’t know if he is dead or alive, I don’t want to speculate.”
Dr Jonathan also addressed the allegation of travelling with a bloated entourage which he described as social media lies. “Social media people always publish lies about the number of people I travel with,” he disclosed.
He also accused people of playing politics with the true state of the nation’s economy. While stressing that Nigeria is not broke, the President said “sometimes people play politics with serious things.” He continued, “to say Nigeria is broke, there must be some parameters. To make that kind of statement is very unfortunate. We must be mindful of the statements we make, it doesn’t matter if you like the face of the president or not.”
