89 Passengers Escape Death as Plane Crash-lands in Kaduna!

Ten days after the Associated Airline crash that killed 15 people in Lagos, another tragedy was on Sunday averted as an IRS Airlines plane made emergency landing at the Kaduna Airport. The aircraft, a Fokker 100 with 89 passengers on board took off from the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos around 8 am with Kaduna as its destination.

It was reported that the planes hydraulic system developed a fault which made it impossible for the tyres to come out. As a result, the pilot had to take the precautionary measure of asking ground crew for confirmation that all gears were down and locked. The landing was effected without the front tyres which did not come out, thereby forcing the plane to belly-land.

Though no casualty was recorded, the incident which is the second near accident after the Lagos crash might raise questions bordering on safety in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
