
“We’re responsible”- MEND A fire gutted part of the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company on Tuesday morning. Street Journal gathered that the fire started from the gas section of the refinery and by 11 am, it was already raging. The fire was eventually put under control following after about an hour. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has claimed responsibility for the fires, stating that its intention was to burn the entire refinery down in its operation tagged “Hurricane Exodus”. The group stated that “as long as President Goodluck Jonathan continues to rely on an unsustainable and fraudulent Niger Delta Amnesty programme, peace and security will continue to elude his government in the region. Hurricane Exodus is on course!”
