With two matches to go in the current league season, these are obviously not the best of times for Shooting Stars, the darling club of Ibadan football supporters. While still mourning the death of Moses Ogaga, a mercurial midfielder, the fate of the club has been sealed and has already been confirmed that the club will not be competing in top flight next season. No thanks to a series of poor showings in the league in the current season.
3SC is now comfortably back to relegation again. Incidentally, an offer was made about two seasons ago by an Ibadan indigene to buy the club’s stake for N 2 billion in order to restore Shooting Stars to the glory of the good old days of the Oluyole Warriors. The fate was sealed following Shooting Stars 1-0 loss to Nembe City on Saturday.
3SC, the first Nigerian club to win an international trophy, now have 43 points from 36 matches to remain at the base of the table.
With two games to go, 3SC can only have a maximum of 49 points which won’t be enough to save them from relegation. The club’s next match is a home game against Warri Wolves while their last match of the season is in Kaduna, against Kaduna United. Shooting Stars have won only one of their last eight games.
3SC rose from relegation and finished 5th in the last season and now just before the current season ends the Ibadan soccer warlords are again wallowing in the relegation waters.
